Marriott Bonvoy Points: Complete Guide to Earning, Redeeming, and Maximizing in 2026

Master Marriott Bonvoy — best award redemptions, airline transfer trick, sweet spot properties under 25,000 points per night, and Category 8 aspirational stays.

By The Points Editor

Marriott Bonvoy is the world’s largest hotel loyalty program — the product of the Marriott–Starwood merger — covering Marriott, Westin, W Hotels, St. Regis, Ritz-Carlton, EDITION, Sheraton, Le Méridien, and many more brands. With 9,000+ properties across 139 countries, the question isn’t where to use Bonvoy points, but how to use them for maximum value.

Marriott Bonvoy Award Pricing: Dynamic Rates

Marriott moved to fully dynamic pricing in 2022. There’s no longer a fixed category chart — points costs fluctuate with cash rates. What this means in practice:

  • Properties that were expensive by points remain expensive by points (Ritz-Carlton Maldives will cost 80,000–150,000+ points per night during peak season)
  • Value is best found at mid-tier properties where cash rates are high but points don’t track perfectly with cash
  • Off-peak and last-minute availability often yields better points pricing
  • Points-per-night rates often cap around 120,000–150,000 even for the most aspirational properties

The Best Marriott Bonvoy Redemptions

Under-the-Radar Value: Westin and Sheraton Resort Properties

The best value in Bonvoy isn’t always the most obvious. Sheraton and Westin resort properties in developing markets frequently show 25,000–45,000 points per night when the same room costs $250–$450 cash — a 1.2–1.8¢ per point return.

Strong properties in this range:

  • Sheraton Maldives Full Moon Resort: Often 50,000–70,000 points/night vs. $400–600 cash
  • Westin Langkawi Resort & Spa: 30,000–50,000 points/night vs. $250–400 cash
  • Westin Cairo Golf Resort & Spa: 20,000–30,000 points/night for a 5-star stay in Africa
  • Sheraton Fiji Golf & Beach Resort: 30,000–50,000 points vs. $300–500 cash in a bucket-list destination

Ritz-Carlton and St. Regis: Aspirational Redemptions

For maximum luxury, Bonvoy points shine at flagship Ritz-Carlton and St. Regis properties:

  • St. Regis Maldives Vommuli: 100,000–150,000+ points/night during peak; cash equivalent $2,000+
  • Ritz-Carlton Kyoto: 70,000–120,000 points/night; cash $500–$1,200
  • St. Regis New York: 70,000–100,000 points/night; cash $700–$1,500
  • Ritz-Carlton Hong Kong: 70,000–110,000 points/night; cash $500–$1,100

The 5th Night Free Benefit

If you redeem 5+ consecutive award nights, Marriott gives you the 5th night free. This effectively makes longer stays 20% cheaper per night. A 5-night stay at 50,000 points/night becomes 200,000 points instead of 250,000. Plan your itinerary around 5-night blocks where possible.

Transferring Bonvoy Points to Airlines

Marriott Bonvoy allows transfers to 40+ airline frequent flyer programs at a ratio of 3:1 (3,000 Bonvoy points → 1,000 airline miles), with a 5,000-mile bonus for every 60,000 points transferred, making the effective ratio 3:1.25 for large transfers.

Best use cases for airline transfers:

  • Top off a KrisFlyer account for a Singapore Airlines award you’re just short on
  • ANA Mileage Club for first class Japan awards
  • Avianca LifeMiles — when combined with Amex/Citi transfers, can speed up accumulation

The 3:1 ratio means airline transfers are generally not the primary Bonvoy strategy — hotel redemptions offer better CPP. But for travelers who have Bonvoy points sitting idle, transfers can unlock premium flight options.
