Airport Lounge Access: Every Way to Get In Without Paying Full Price

Complete guide to airport lounge access — Priority Pass, credit card perks, airline status lounges, Centurion, Capital One, pay-per-visit, and the best lounges by.

By The Points Editor

Airport lounges transform travel from endurance to enjoyment: free food and drinks, comfortable seating, showers, fast Wi-Fi, and a quiet refuge from the terminal chaos. Full-price lounge day passes can run $50–$100. With the right credit card or program, you can access hundreds of lounges worldwide for free.

Priority Pass: The Most Widely Accepted Lounge Network

Priority Pass is the world’s largest independent airport lounge network, covering 1,300+ lounges across 140+ countries. It’s not affiliated with any specific airline, making it more versatile than airline-specific programs.

How to get Priority Pass for free:

CardAnnual FeeLounge Policy
Chase Sapphire Reserve$550Unlimited Priority Pass visits + guests
Amex Platinum$695Unlimited Priority Pass + 2 guests
Venture X$395Unlimited Priority Pass + 2 guests
Hilton Aspire (Amex)$550Priority Pass + 2 guests
Marriott Bonvoy Brilliant$650Priority Pass + 2 guests
United Club Infinite$525United Club access (not Priority Pass)

The Chase Sapphire Reserve is widely considered the most accessible route to unlimited Priority Pass at a “reasonable” annual fee tier.

Priority Pass limitations to know:

  • Not every airport has Priority Pass lounges — it’s excellent in Europe, Asia, and some US airports, but some major US hubs are weak
  • Third-party guest policies vary — always confirm with the specific lounge on arrival
  • Restaurant credit benefit: Priority Pass includes credits at select airport restaurants at some US airports ($28–$30 credit per person) — this has become a popular workaround where traditional lounge coverage is thin

Amex Centurion Lounges

The Amex Centurion Lounge network (exclusive to Amex Platinum and Centurion cardholders) is widely regarded as the best domestic US lounge network — vastly superior to the standard Priority Pass lounge experience:

Centurion Lounge locations (as of 2026):

  • New York (JFK) — Terminal 4
  • New York (LGA) — Terminal B
  • San Francisco (SFO)
  • Los Angeles (LAX) — Terminals 4 and B
  • Las Vegas (LAS)
  • Miami (MIA)
  • Dallas (DFW) — Terminal D
  • Seattle (SEA)
  • Washington Dulles (IAD)
  • Charlotte (CLT)
  • Chicago O’Hare (ORD) — Concourse H
  • Houston (IAH) — International Terminal E
  • Philadelphia (PHL)
  • Phoenix (PHX)
  • Atlanta (ATL) — concourse F
  • Denver (DEN)
  • Minneapolis (MSP)

Plus international locations: Hong Kong, London (Heathrow T3), Sydney, Singapore, Tokyo (Haneda), and more.

Centurion Lounge quality: Consistently excellent food quality (often the menu is curated by local or nationally recognized chefs), full bar service, fast Wi-Fi, spa treatments at many locations. Hong Kong Centurion is a landmark.

Access rules: The Amex Platinum now limits free guests to 2 per visit (a change in 2024). Additional guests cost $50 per person. Cardholders can always enter for free; guest policy is the variable.

Airline Lounge Access via Status

Flying frequently enough earns you access to an airline’s own lounge network — the most premium lounge access in the world:

United Club: Earned at Premier Gold status and above, or United Club card. Best locations: SFO (United Polaris Lounge), ORD, EWR.

Delta Sky Club: Earned at Diamond/Platinum Medallion, or Amex Delta Reserve card. Best locations: ATL (enormous flagship), JFK.

American Admirals Club / Flagship Lounge: Citi AAdvantage Executive provides Admirals Club access. Flagship Lounges (for business class passengers) are the premium tier.

Qatar Airways Al Mourjan Business Class Lounge (Doha): One of the world’s best airport lounges — a sprawling complex with a la carte dining, sleeping pods, and spa. Access for business class passengers or Oneworld Emerald/Sapphire.

Singapore Airlines SilverKris Lounge: Among the finest in Asia at Changi Airport (T3). Access for Business/First passengers or KrisFlyer Elite Gold.

Capital One Lounge Network

Capital One opened its own lounge network in 2021-2022, currently at:

  • Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW) — Terminal D
  • Washington Dulles (IAD)
  • Denver (DEN) — opening 2025

Access: Venture X cardholders get unlimited visits. Venture cardholders get 2 free visits per year.

The Capital One Lounges are highly rated for food quality and design — strong competition to the Centurion Lounges, often in the same airports.

The Strategy: How to Maximize Lounge Access

For the budget-conscious: The Chase Sapphire Reserve’s Priority Pass covers 1,300+ global lounges for $550/year — offset by the $300 travel credit (net effective fee: $250). That’s broadly the cheapest path to unlimited Priority Pass.

For domestic US travel: The Amex Platinum provides the best domestic lounge network via Centurion Lounges, plus Priority Pass for non-Centurion airports. The $695 fee is offset by up to $200 airline fee credit, $200 hotel credit, $240 digital entertainment credit, etc.

For international heavy travelers: Business class tickets usually come with lounge access at both ends. Prioritize programs whose hubs have flagship lounges — Singapore Changi, Hong Kong, Dubai, Doha, London Heathrow T5.

For Indian travelers: Major Indian airports (BOM, DEL, BLR) have DreamFolks-affiliated lounges that Axis Magnus and HDFC Infinia cards provide access to. Always check the DreamFolks app for current coverage before your trip.
