Bali on Points: How to Book Luxury Resorts Using Miles and Hotel Points

Award travel guide to Bali — flying to Bali using points, the best luxury resorts on Marriott Bonvoy and IHG points, and why the Bali redemption is one of the best in.

By The Points Editor

Bali combines the most aspirational resort real estate in Asia with some of the best hotel loyalty redemption value on earth. Cash rates at Bali’s finest resorts — the Four Seasons Jimbaran, Bulgari Resort, St. Regis Nusa Dua — routinely exceed $800–$3,000 per night. With the right hotel points, you can sleep in a private villa overlooking the Indian Ocean for the same miles you’d spend on a domestic US flight.

Getting to Bali (DPS) on Points

Ngurah Rai International Airport (DPS) is Bali’s gateway. It sees direct flights from Singapore (SIN), Kuala Lumpur (KUL), Sydney (SYD), Tokyo (TYO), and Hong Kong (HKG) — making a hub connection the standard approach from the US or India.

Via Singapore: The Cleanest Routing

Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer: Transfer from Chase UR, Amex MR, Capital One, or Citi TYP to KrisFlyer (1:1).

  • Book SQ Business Class from US West Coast to Singapore
  • Then add Singapore → Bali on one ticket (SQ or Silk Air)
  • Total: ~95,000–110,000 KrisFlyer miles in Business Class

Singapore’s Changi Airport is among the most beautiful in the world — the connection itself is a bonus.

Via Kuala Lumpur: Malaysia Airlines Enrich

  • American Express Membership Rewards transfers to Malaysia Airlines Enrich (1:1)
  • KL–Bali economy is very affordable in miles and a logical addition to a premium long-haul award

Via Hong Kong: Cathay Pacific Asia Miles

  • Earn Asia Miles from Chase UR, Amex MR, or Citi TYP (check current transfer partnerships)
  • Book Cathay Business into Kuala Lumpur or Singapore, connect to Bali

Bali Practical Travel Information

Best time: April–October (dry season). Avoid November–March peak rainy season for beach destinations.

Entry: Most passport holders get visa on arrival (currently 30 days, extendable to 60 days). India recently joined the visa-free program — check current status before travel.

Getting around Bali: Grab (Southeast Asia’s Uber equivalent) is the easiest app for point-to-point. Hire a private driver for full-day temple circuits (Ubud, Kintamani, Tanah Lot): typically $40–$60 for a car and driver all day.

Tipping: Expected at upscale hotels and restaurants; typically 10,000–20,000 IDR (less than $2) per service interaction.

Currency: Indonesian Rupiah (IDR). Use a Wise card or Charles Schwab debit for ATM withdrawals at zero foreign transaction fee.

Hotel award rates reflect typical June 2026 pricing. Dynamic programs may differ at time of booking.
